I decided to create this page for my dad’s lung transplant journey. It’s the easiest way to provide updates for anyone interested!

Background- he was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in 2014. He didn’t have any significant declines in this disease until he got sick with a viral respiratory infection in November of 2023. His lung function decreased greatly and the transplant team at Duke decided it was time to move forward with getting him ready to go on the transplant list. Fast forward to February 1st and he relocated to Durham to be in close proximity to Duke medical hospital per the recommendations at Duke. He has since been participating in the pre-transplant rehab program as well having multiple dr visits, tests, etc. 

He was officially been put on the transplant list yesterday. They have him listed to be able to have a single lung transplant or bilateral lung transplant. The wait times vary but he has been told 15-30 days average time. Again though, it varies based on several factors. 

I will continue to provide updates especially when his time comes for the transplant.
